The Spanish artist Francisco Goya was one of Harold’s most revered heroes. Goya’s 80 aquatint prints from 1799, called Los caprichos, were exceptional favorites, which he studied and taught about. The virtuosic intaglio printmaking technique combined with incisive social commentary offered Harold a mentor worthy of his own capacity for genius. In Harold’s study, a pair of giant lips hover over a sketched study with animal like characters. All of what he was thinking will remain unknown to us. Harold made several studies for prints.
