Incoming I (MoonMask)
32 x 42”
Intaglio Aquatint
$1,150 framed, $850 unframed
The incoming Moon-mask image was derived from a combination of Rhea's childhood carving on a drawing board, her college studies of Inuit Eskimo mask ceremonial carvings at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and an incoming predatory seabird called a skua. In the skua/stealth bomber series, forms which combine or hybridize biomorphic creatures and aircraft to show flight as a metaphor for speed in attack or escape. The Moon-mask image was created with several layers of hand-painted nitric acid onto a lacquer-aquatinted section of a zinc metal plate, printed in a very small edition due to the delicacy of the etch.
